This wood frog came in to the MWRC in the beginning of June with a puncture wound on the left side, just behind her front leg. If you look closely in the picture, you can see the opening. Upon arrival, it was noticed that an organ was prodruding from this wound. After some dirt and debris was cleaned off, it was determined that her heart was prodruding from her chest cavity, and still beating. With extreme care, the veterinarian on staff put her heart back into her body cavity. The picture to the left was post-operation. Our veterinarian planned to anesthetize her the next day however, with her wound in good condition, it was decided to leave her alone.

After spending a total of two days with us in the rehab center, we decided that she had healed enough to be released. A staff member took her to the field station close to campus and released her in a swampy area.
